Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!
Dear Chisholm Community,
Welcome to a new school year! I am honored and excited to serve as the Principal of Shirley Chisholm Elementary School.
As a leader, I believe it is important to share who I am and to model lifelong learning. I am an immigrant, a multilingual learner, and a mother. These experiences have shaped my belief that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, challenged, and loved. They have also taught me the power of education to open doors, build bridges, and transform lives.
I consider myself a lead learner. I am committed to growing alongside our students, staff, and families as we strive for excellence together. As Shirley Chisholm once said, "If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair." Her words remind us to lead with courage, perseverance, and a belief that every voice matters.
Here in our Chisholm Community, we believe it's always a great day to love, learn, and lead.
As leaders, we understand the importance of being respectful, responsible, kind, and safe.
As language learners, we celebrate our unique identities and cultures while exploring the beautiful backgrounds of others. We honor the rich diversity found right here in our neighborhood and throughout the world.
We are a vibrant Bilingual Arts School, bustling with curiosity, creativity, and possibility. We are committed to meeting the diverse needs of our students while equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to thrive in the 21st century.
Our students shine brightly in all they do. Through academics, athletics, theater, film in Spanish, visual arts, and other enrichment opportunities, we encourage every child to discover and pursue their passions.
Our teachers and staff work hand in hand with families and caregivers because we know that a strong village creates strong outcomes for children. Together, we build relationships grounded in trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to student success.
We are also fortunate to be supported by an incredible network of partners, including DC Public Schools, Akin Gump, the Marine Barracks, Grace Covenant Church, the Sullivan Family Foundation, EWDC, and many others who strengthen our work on behalf of students.
As we begin this new year, we will continue to increase academic achievement while fostering leadership, belonging, and joyful learning experiences for every student. This year, we will place a special emphasis on writing, metacognition, and making thinking visible. We believe that our role is not simply to teach students what to think, but to teach them how to think. Through rich discussions, meaningful writing experiences, and opportunities for reflection, our students will learn to articulate their thinking, question deeply, solve problems creatively, and develop the confidence to share their ideas with the world. As our school modernization project continues, we look forward to helping shape the future of Shirley Chisholm Elementary while remaining firmly grounded in our history, legacy, and love for our community.

Querida Comunidad de Chisholm,
¡Bienvenidos a un nuevo año escolar! Es un honor y una gran alegría servir como Directora de Shirley Chisholm Elementary School.
Como líder, creo que es importante compartir quién soy y modelar el aprendizaje continuo. Soy inmigrante, aprendiz multilingüe y madre. Estas experiencias han moldeado mi visión de la educación y mi convicción de que cada niño merece sentirse visto, valorado, retado y querido. También me han enseñado el poder que tiene la educación para abrir puertas, tender puentes y transformar vidas.
Me considero una líder aprendiz. Estoy comprometida a crecer junto a nuestros estudiantes, personal y familias mientras trabajamos juntos para alcanzar la excelencia. Como dijo Shirley Chisholm: "Si no te dan un asiento en la mesa, trae una silla plegable." Sus palabras nos recuerdan que debemos liderar con valentía, perseverancia y la convicción de que cada voz importa.
Aquí, en nuestra comunidad de Chisholm, creemos que siempre es un gran día para amar, aprender y liderar.

Somos una vibrante escuela bilingüe y de artes, llena de energía, creatividad y posibilidades. Nos esforzamos por responder a las necesidades diversas de nuestros estudiantes mientras los equipamos con las habilidades, conocimientos y herramientas necesarias para prosperar en el siglo XXI.
Nuestros estudiantes brillan en todo lo que hacen. A través de oportunidades académicas, deportivas, teatrales, cinematográficas en español, artísticas y extracurriculares, alentamos a cada niño a descubrir sus talentos, desarrollar sus fortalezas y explorar sus propias pasiones.
Nuestros maestros y miembros del personal trabajan de la mano con las familias y cuidadores porque sabemos que una comunidad fuerte crea oportunidades extraordinarias para los niños. Compartimos valores, construimos relaciones y colaboramos con un compromiso común hacia el éxito de nuestros estudiantes.

Al comenzar este nuevo año escolar, continuaremos trabajando para aumentar el rendimiento académico de nuestros estudiantes mientras fortalecemos el liderazgo, el sentido de pertenencia y las experiencias de aprendizaje alegres y significativas para cada niño.
Este año pondremos un énfasis especial en la escritura, la metacognición y la visibilización del pensamiento (Making Thinking Visible). Creemos que nuestra labor no es simplemente enseñar a los estudiantes qué pensar, sino enseñarles cómo pensar. Queremos que nuestros estudiantes desarrollen hábitos de pensamiento profundos, reflexionen sobre su propio aprendizaje y aprendan a comunicar sus ideas con claridad y confianza.
A través de conversaciones enriquecedoras, experiencias auténticas de escritura y oportunidades constantes de reflexión, nuestros estudiantes aprenderán a hacer visible su pensamiento, formular preguntas profundas, resolver problemas de manera creativa y desarrollar la confianza necesaria para compartir su voz con el mundo. La escritura será una herramienta fundamental para el aprendizaje, la expresión y el liderazgo de nuestros estudiantes.
Mientras continuamos avanzando en el proyecto de modernización de nuestro edificio escolar, nos entusiasma cocrear el futuro de Shirley Chisholm Elementary School, manteniéndonos siempre firmemente arraigados en nuestra historia, nuestro legado y el amor por nuestra comunidad.
